When you a purchase a brand new pc / laptop (of Windows), Microsoft has already set the some percentage of your internet’s Bandwidth. This Bandwidth is known as Reservable Bandwidth. And the purpose behind doing this is the System Update. Windows uses this Reservable Bandwidth to update your system whenever update is available. If you format your PC/Laptop or change your Operating System then this Reservable Bandwidth is set to it’s default value and that is 20%. Means whatever your internet speed is, 20% of your Internet Bandwidth is reserved for system update. So whenever you connect your pc/laptop to the internet your system will check for the system update and if update is available then system will download update.

What’s the Solution to Increase Internet Speed in Windows

If you have turn ON the system update (by default it remains turn ON), you can turn OFF too. So your system will never check for the system update. But it doesn’t mean that your Reservable Bandwidth is free for your use. No, it’s NOT. You have to Set Limit of Your Reservable Bandwidth.

Increase Internet Speed using Reservable Bandwidth

But, here is good news for you. You can change the value of Reservable Bandwidth according to your need by following the steps given below.

  • Press Windows Button + R simultaneously to open Run box. Type gpedit.msc in the Run box and hit the Enter. It will open the Local Group Policy Editor.

  • Click on Computer Configuration

  • Click on Administrative Templates

  • Click on Network

  • Click on QoS Packet Scheduler and then Double click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth

  • Select Enabled in the Left side of the window
  • Change Bandwidth Limit (%) to 0 (Zero) and then Click on OK and close the window.

Whoooaaaa, you are Done. Now, Your Internet’s Bandwidth is usable for you which was reserved by Windows at 20%.

Now, By making some changes in your registry you can increase your internet speed. Speed will not increase dramatically but it can make some changes for you.

Increase your Internet Speed using Registry Editor:

  • Press Windows Button + R simultaneously to open Run box. Type regedit in the Run box and hit the Enter. It will open the Registry Editor.

  • Expand Computer folder on left side of the registry editor window. Then expand HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE –> SYSTEM –> CurrentControlSet –> Services folder.

  • Expand Tcpip folder and then Click on ServiceProvider folder.

  •  Set the below values on registry files on right side of the registry editor window.
    • Click on DnsPriority and type 7 in value data and click OK.
