How to Backup Contacts and Messages in Android? Nowadays, mobile is a part of daily life but data is more important than mobile. You never know when your mobile will go crash or got virus infected or fall down from your hand. After any accidentally damage of your mobile you can buy new mobile but if you loose your important data then it will be very tough task to get back.

A very well known quote is- precaution is better than cure. So it will be very safe if we backup our data. Here, we are talking about contacts and messages. Let’s get started.

Where Backup files are stored?

What you backed up is stored somewhere in your mobile. So in future whenever you want to restore your data, you can use it. Now, let’s find where your backed up contacts and messages are stored.

Note: If you want to download simplest and easiest file manager then I will suggest to use MI file manager. And if you want to use feature rich file manager then ES file explorer is the best available file manager to work with in play store. But, ES file explorer is feature rich application so you will have to give some time to learn and understand about ES file explorer.

  • Open File manager / File Explorer / My Files on your device.
  • Find the Folder named SmsContactsBackup in file manager. Please note that you will find SmsContactsBackup folder only if you have used this application to backup contacts and to backup messages. If you have used another application then you will find the folder name according to that application.
  • Inside the SmsContactsBackup folder there is a folder named contacts and sms. As name suggests contacts folder is used to keep your all backed up contacts and same with sms folder.

Now, you can copy or move that backup data wherever you want. But I suggest you to copy backed up contacts and sms in Google Drive (If you don’t know how to do it, click here). So whenever you want to access those data you can use it using your gmail id. For example, if your mobile accidentaly got damaged and you are not able to get your data back then you can use your gmail id to sign ito another mobile for getting your data back which you had previously backed up.

How to Identify the Contact / Message Backup file:

Firest of all, backup of your contacts will stored in contacts folder and back up of messages will stored in sms folder. And please note that all of your data will stored in a single file. For example, either you choose to back up 5 contacts or 500 contacts, your selected contacts will backed up in a single file and same thing is applicable with messages.

But, if you stored all of your backup files in a same folder then you will need to identify the type of a file by it’s extension. There is a file extension at the end of your file name. You will have to option to choose file name while you are backing up it. But most of the time people don’t save it with preffered name. People choose to save it with system generated name. Check the table given below.

Contactscontacts_.vcf
Messagessms_.xml
